MCCCD Chandler-Gilbert Community College Project Profile

Chandler-Gilbert Community College, a Maricopa Community College, has partnered with Solar City to build and operate a 1.38 MW photovoltaic array at the college's Pecos Campus. This solar facility is being constructed on land leased from CGCC and the college will purchase the power that is generated over a 20-year PPA. The solar facility will provide 37% of the campus's current electrical need at a fixed cost per MWh for the term of the agreement, mitigating the impact of expected utility cost increases. Beyond the financial benefit, this agreement allows the college – an early signer of the American College and University Presidents' Climate Commitment (ACUPCC) – to utilize acreage held for future growth in a way that makes significant progress toward emissions reduction goals.

"Chandler-Gilbert has long been a leader in integrating sustainability into learning experiences across the curriculum. As we continue to develop our campus facilities, this project is an important demonstration of our commitment to sustainability and good stewardship, both environmental and financial." --Bradley Kendrex, Vice President for Administrative Services. In January 2016, CGCC started the installation of a 1.38 MW solar power system at the Pecos Campus of Chandler-Gilbert Community College.
